about

Flying Dutchman tells the tale of the ghostship The Flying Dutchman, setting sail on Easter Morning and which was never seen again.
It is slightly based on The Rime of the Anciënt Mariner by Iron Maiden.
It's also the longest track of the album.

lyrics

A fierce four day gale,
The foaming sea pounded the quay.
The only ship that was moored,
was thwarted by the storm.
From the rear, the captain shouts
“Rain or shine, we’re sailing out,
this wretched storm can’t hold me back.
Prepare the ship, all hands on deck!”

The first boatman, he complained
“Tomorrow it’s Easter Sunday.”
The captain he bellowed vigorously,
“We’re leaving in the morning!”

Heavier than the day before,
Waves lashed the loaded ship.
“Weigh the anchor and hoist the sails”
The captain thundered above the storm.

The boatswain tried carefully,
“captain, its Easter morning!”
But the captain laughed derisively
while the Easter bells were tolling.

The captain and all his crew
suddenly turned to stone,
Motionless, no sign of life.
A curse came over Davy Jones.

His last words echoed in the storm.
“Rain or shine, we’re sailing on!
If I have to sail until eternity,
We’ll leave today, onwards to sea”

The ship moved with bulging sails against the wind
and the crew stood like statues on the deck
The sails lit up like they were on fire
The white painted hull turned to black
The ghost ship silently left the harbor
It disappeared and never came back

If you ever sail ‘round The Cape you might catch a glimpse.
Of the Flying Dutchman, who sails against the wind.
With it sails red like fire and the whole ship burned black.
You can’t escape the Dutchman, he’s the bringer of death.

The boatswain tried carefully,
“captain, its Easter morning!”
But the captain laughed derisively.
While the Easter bells were tolling.

If you ever sail ‘round The Cape you might catch a glimpse.
Of the Flying Dutchman, who sails against the wind.
With it sails red like fire and the whole ship burned black.
You can’t escape the Dutchman, he’s the bringer of death.

How does a bottle of whiskey taste if you have six true musicians doing their thing? How's rock 'n' roll as these same guys mix their passion for Irish folk, steaming Americana and solid rock to a swinging cocktail?
